About the programme

English to Grow is an English language learning programme designed for private primary schools with an extended language curriculum. It combines three proven methods: Teddy Eddie, Savvy Ed and Edward’s League. The programme covers all the content required by the core curriculum and more, aiming to achieve two main objectives: first, to teach students free and natural communication, and second, to enable them to become proficient users of English who are capable of navigating a variety of real-life situations. The students’ progress is tangible and measurable, with an assessment system that not only tracks language acquisition but also nurtures their broader development, fostering self-confidence and a sense of achievement.

Why is the programme so effective?

Edu Bears’ methods blend the best aspects of traditional teaching with modern approaches. They are rooted in neurodidactic principles, which ensure that we teach in ways that align with how our brains naturally absorb information. Our textbooks are filled with engaging, humorous content that keeps students interested, and we make sure we have fun during lessons. The programme strikes a perfect balance between focused activities and movement, content reception and production, and between using paper materials and digital resources.

In the process, students also develop valuable skills beyond language acquisition: they learn how to acquire knowledge, set goals, and assess their own progress in a constructive way.

Traditional and innovative

We blend traditional teaching techniques, grounded in classical educational approaches, with modern concepts like formative assessment, the flipped classroom strategy and inductive grammar teaching. This combination ensures that students benefit from tried and tested methods while also engaging with innovative approaches to learning.

Examinations and communication priorities

While the programme prepares students for international Cambridge examinations, our primary focus at all levels is communication. We believe that the ability to speak confidently and communicate not only effectively but also accurately is paramount. Students are encouraged to express themselves freely, helping them overcome any reluctance to use the language.

A high-quality method and student autonomy

Every component of the programme—each lesson and exercise—is carefully designed to ensure that students gradually and effectively acquire knowledge and skills. At the same time, we boost student autonomy by taking into account individual talents and natural predispositions, empowering students to take ownership of their learning journey.

Proven resources and intriguing innovations

The programme is built on tried and tested methods that provide students with comprehensive Education Packs, well-structured textbooks, and a well-defined progress assessment system. Alongside these proven resources, we introduce fresh and original ideas tailored to the developmental stage and interests of the students.

Cambridge Examinations

Many schools that use Edu Bears methods collaborate with certified preparation centres which officially prepare and register students for Cambridge examinations. This partnership allows students to earn an internationally recognised certificate that verifies their language proficiency.

The prospect of earning this certification motivates students by providing them with a concrete goal to work towards, while the achievement of passing the exam boosts their confidence and encourages them to continue their language learning journey.

Teddy Eddie Superhero

The level for first graders. At this level, little learners focus on speaking in full sentences. They master a wide range of words, sentences and phrases, and it's likely they will begin to use them spontaneously, not just in the classroom. In addition, they learn how to function in their class environment in English, which helps them to become more comfortable with using the language in everyday situations. This early foundation sets the stage for continued language development as they progress.

Savvy Ed

Savvy Ed builds on the foundational language skills in a supportive and dynamic learning environment. It takes into account the need of young learners to be active by incorporating plenty of movement into lessons. Through language games and appealing activities, all the language skills are developed in a comprehensive way, with a special focus on enhancing communication abilities.

How did the English to Grow programme come about?

The English to Grow programme was brought to life when Bloom School was established in 2022. The owner of a language school, who had already been familiar with Edu Bears methods for years, decided to set up a private school because she wanted to create a place where learning was effective and friendly. Knowing the results that our courses bring in practice, she approached Edu Bears to ask if they could be used in the programme of the newly established school.

Our agreement led to an avalanche of further steps which led to the programme: we analysed our methods from the point of view of the core curriculum and supplied the content required by the Board of Trustees, adapted the timetables to a different lesson length and number of hours, and rethought the principles of assessment and self-assessment so that they were in line with the school statutes.

Successful implementation of the programme in every school is always built on a detailed analysis of the school’s policies and finding solutions that are in line with both the school and the Edu Bears standards. Our methodologists work together with the teachers and school management to establish an individualised action plan, and then monitor and support the English to Grow implementation programme until everyone is satisfied with the quality.

The Edu Bears Methodology Department

The compatibility of the English to Grow programme with the current core curriculum is monitored by our Methodology Department, which updates both the content for students and the documentation needed by teachers. On a day-to-day basis, it provides schools with support in implementing the programme and in delivering lessons of the highest quality. It also periodically reviews the standard of lessons in each school.
